HOW RICH IS QUEEN ELIZABETH

Royal weddings like Harry and Meghan markle are expensive. The last Royal weddings for Prince  William and Kate middleton cost is estimated to be at $34 million and that's low compared to the cost of prince Charles and princess Diana wedding which is predicted to be at $150 million in today's Dollars. You have to be very rich to foot bill this big. So, how rich is the royal family. The personal finances of British Royal family are kept very private but let's try to break it down. What we do know is that Queen Elizabeth || is the wealthiest member of the Royal family. Forbes estimated her personal networth at around $530 million. That a lot but not enough to put her on the list of World Richest People. So, where does the Queen's money come from? It's all complicated but it can be traced back to three main sources.

1. Personal wealth and income: This includes asset from the Queen's portfolio's, private estates in Scotland and English countries, private jewelries and art. She inherited some from her father which are valued at $175 million. When it comes to her personal incomes, the Queen also has a lucrative hobby which is horse racing. It is reported she has raked in $9 million over the last three decades.

2. The sovereign Grant: This is the lump sum given by the government to pay for her official duties like reception, travels and other things. The sovereign grant for 2017 and 2018 is around a $100 millions.
The Duke of edinburgh receives an annual allowance of about $500,000 from the parliament for his public duties. The money from sovereign grant comes from UK tax payers.

3. Privy Purse: This is the fancy way of saying money generated from land, properties and asset of the Duchy of Lancaster. The Duchy main purpose is to provide income for the Duke of Lancaster. That's title that has represented the reigning sovereign since 1939 and yes the Queen is sometimes referred to as the Duke of Lancaster. The estimated value of the Duchy of Lancaster is about $700 million. The Queen receives an annual income of about $25 million from that. Her son Charles, the prince of Wales receives a similar income from Duchy of cornwall. That's because he is heir to the crown and his estimated networth is around $400 million. The Queen's immediate family is worth $1.1 billion. Prince Williams is worth $30M, $7M for the duchess of Cambridge and $25M for prince Harry.
Sometimes, people think the Royal family worth even more but it turns out some of the most valuable asset are not owned by the Royal Family. They are part of two separate funds. One is the organization called the crown estate valued at $17B. It's a real estate business that includes major chunks of property around the United Kingdom. It's being managed by Independent board of directors and it's profit goes to the UK treasury. The second fund is the Royal Collection Trust. This includes a lot of things typically associated with BritishRoyal family. We talking policies, famous Art collections and of course the crown jewels. The total value of the Royal Collection Trust is estimated to be about $15B but since it's part of the trust that's passed down from generation to generation, the Queen doesn't personally own this valuable asset.

There is no Question the Royal family is rich but simply measuring up their asset might not give us the full picture of their wealth. It's estimated the monarch brings in more that $1B to the UK economy every year and that's a number fit for a Queen.
